Today you are going to get a sneak peek at one of the Lexi by PlexusTM featured Ambassador lessons: “If I … Would You?”.
“If I … Would You?” is a technique that can help you commit others to action. It works off a principle called Reciprocity. Reciprocity is a psychological principle used to explain the desire people have to do something for you after you’ve done something for them.
This technique works great for a lot of situations. Here’s how to do it:
Whenever you ask someone to do something, start out with the phrase “If I …” and state what you are willing to do. Then transition by saying the words “would you…” and request what you want the other person to do.
Here are a few examples:
- “If I send you a video about Plexus Slim®, would you check it out?”
- “If I mow the lawn, would you do the dishes?”
- “If I host the team meeting, would you teach the team on the “If I…Would You” skill?”
The applications for this skill are numerous. Just remember that the purpose of this skill isn’t to manipulate, but to motivate. People may still say no, and that’s okay.
